Ceiling

-

“When visitors come in to the chapel, there is so much detail in the stonework around them that it’s easy to forget to look up” continues Ian. “Up above, the barrel vaulted ceiling is a masterpiece of medieval craftsmanship. Divided into five compartments, with each separated by elaborately carved stone bands, the ceiling features a variety of carved flowers, including roses and lilies, and stars. Look carefully and, among the stars, you can see fours angels, the moon, the sun, a dove and the face of Christ with his hand raised in blessing. It’s fantastic!”
