● Dundee Law is the highest point of the city. Archaeological evidence suggests its slopes were used for burials some 3500 years ago.
● Broughty Castle was built in 1496 by the Gray family. The War Office purchased it in 1861, and since 1969 it has been a museum.
● Founded by William the Lion in 1178, Arbroath Abbey was where the Declaration of Arbroath was drafted in 1320.
● It is thought that a defensive site has existed at Dunnottar Castle since the seventh century.
● Stonehaven developed from an Iron Age fishing village and today is built around its attractive harbour.
● The name “Aberdeen” translates as “Mouth of the River Don”.
