The Shelter Stone project is bringing joy to remote places

- By FIONA RUSSELL

AN innovative Scottish project that combines art and the mountains is being enjoyed by keen walkers across the country. The Shelter Stone – The Artist And The Mountain has been responsible for creating and distributing more than 100 publications, filled with landscape-inspired writings and artworks, to remote shelters and huts in Britain. At least 80 of the 66-page booklets can be found in Scotland.

The locations have not been advertised by the initiative, a partnership between artists’ institution The Strict Nature Reserve and The Mountain Bothies Association (MBA).

So far there have been reports – and photos – of findings in bothies as far afield as Aberdeenshire and Dumfries and Galloway, the Cairngorms and Argyll and Bute.
