Christmas In The City

The Scots Magazine - - Focus On… Aberdeenshire - Castle Fraser, near Dunecht

WITHIN the city itself, Aberdeen can offer a host of festive attractions. The 12 Days Of Christmas wooden sculpture trail, created by local chainsaw wood carver Gary Shand, is certainly one for all the family.

From A Partridge In A Pear Tree in Castlegate all the way to Twelve Drummers Drumming in The Green, it’s a chance for a stroll as well as a sing-along to the well-known carol.

Union Square hosts its traditional German Market, which runs until January 4, and in the quadrangle of Marischal College you’ll find the HAAN Christmas Design Market. A local word for “hand”, HAAN celebrates the best crafted and handmade designs in Aberdeenshire.

Friends of Hazlehead Park will provide their own Winter Wonderland on December 17, when entertainment will be provided by Rock Choir, Hazlehead School Choir, Cairngorm Reindeer and the Bon Accord Silver Band.

Aberdeen’s Christmas Village on Broad Street and Queen Street boasts an open-air ice rink, fairground rides and there are refreshments galore, including pop-up cafés courtesy of some of the city’s top independent coffee shops.

It’s not beginning to look a lot like Christmas – it is Christmas!
