A Solo Summits Fan

-

A 40th birthday gift of a book, The High Mountains Of Britain And Ireland by Irvine Butterfield, prompted Donald Irvine’s lifetime love of summits.

Almost 30 years later, Donald (69) of Bearsden in East Dunbartonshire, became a Full House finisher, the 49th to register, completing on the Graham, Morven, in Caithness on June 2, 2018.

He says, “The book got me interested in lists that were additional to the usual Munros and Corbetts. I was fascinated to see that there were subsidiary tops that could be fairly easily ticked off during another hike, such as to the summit of a Munro.”

In order of completion, Donald finished the Munro Tops in September 2002, followed by the Munros a month later. By April 2008, he had ticked off all the Furths, then the Corbetts by April 2015, the Donalds in January 2016, before the Full House finish this year.

Where possible, Donald, who has long been a member of Milngavie Mountaineering Club, will travel by pubic transport to the hill walks.
