Jail Time
I was interested to read Kenny Macaskill’s article on Peterhead Prison as my late mother’s uncle Andrew Veitch was an officer there. He had been a soldier in The Black Watch and when the Boer War broke out he was recalled to serve with the regiment. However, on the way to South Africa he caught appendicitis and was put ashore at Malta to have an operation. He was then sent back to Fort George until the war ended before returning to being a prison officer at Peterhead. Patrick W. Anderson, Letham.
