The Box Of Delights
We’re living in the Youtube age and I sometimes like to trip down memory lane at this time of year. The Box Of Delights is a BBC adaptation of John Masefield’s children’s fantasy novel first broadcast between November 21 and December 24, 1984. A schoolboy is entrusted with a magical box which allows him to time travel and shapeshift to protect the box from an evil magician. Curiosities, peculiar oddities and obscurities abound. A wee bit like the world of the independent bottler, offering an alternative take on mainstream whisky. I recommend a dram from the box of delights that’s the North Star stable, like Glen Moray 9-Year-old 2007, 70cl, ABV 57.7%, £52.95
