Two Trade Unionists

“This drawing by Ken Currie is one of the key items in our art collection,” says Clare. “It depicts two forlorn industrial workers with a trade union banner in the background. For me it captures perfectly the struggles endured by working people over the centuries, first of all for the very right to join trade unions and secondly the fight to improve working conditions thereafter. It was one of three works by the Scottish artist that were commissioned by Monklands District Council in 1986 before being transferred to North Lanarkshire Council ownership.”
