ASPRAWLING cliff-top masterpiece, looming over woods, beaches, secret follies and playparks, Culzean Castle was the home and playground of the wealthy clan Kennedy. Designed by Robert Adam in the late 18th century, the castle has been in the care of the National Trust for Scotland since 1945 and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Ayrshire coast annually. Gordon Nelson has worked at the castle for 25 years and in his current role as head guide and collections care officer, he welcomes visitors and helps care for the vast collection of paintings and artefacts.
