Outside of Scotland the sea eagle is also known as the white-tailed eagle, gray or Eurasian sea eagle, and in America as the erne.

The first sea eagles were reintroduced to Scotland on the Isle of Rum in 1975 and then Wester Ross between 1993 and 1998.

In 2013, for the first time in almost 200 years, sea eagles bred successfully in east Scotland.
