Calcutta Cup

-

I found the article on the Calcutta Cup in your March issue interesting, but wondered if you would include the history of the cup itself? When the Calcutta Rugby Club in Calcutta, India, was disbanded in 1878, the remaining club funds were withdrawn in silver Indian rupees. These were melted down and formed into the cup, which was presented to the RFU. It is a magnificent cup with a remarkable history of Scots who travelled the world in business, taking their sport with them.
