Try your hand at a variety of golf-based games and more at Cluny Activities

-

ST ANDREWS might lay claim to being the home of golf, but another Fife venue is pushing the game’s boundaries in different directions. At Cluny Activities, visitors can test their skills at foot golf – kicking a football around a nine or 18-hole course.

Or how about disc golf? That’s tossing a flying disc into a basket, again over nine or 18 holes.

Traditionalists will be pleased to hear there’s a nine-hole regular golf course, too. Ideal for beginners, it’s set in rolling countryside beside the River Ore, near Kirkcaldy, and is open seven days a week.

There’s also a golf shop and a driving range, where visitors can play for fun or practise their skills.

It’s a popular activity for team-building and group outings, too.

Golf is only part of the picture here, though.

The family-run business started out as Cluny Clays and, for a while, clay pigeon shooting was a side interest for the Shedden family, while they farmed the land.

Over time the range of activities grew and in 2003 the cows and agricultural equipment were sold so the family could focus on running a first-class visitor attraction. Clay shooting experiences are still part of the package, and visitors can try to hit the bullseye with an air rifle. There are also cricket nets, available for hire to individual players, coaches and clubs. And the centre proudly proclaims itself as Fife’s only Segway venue, offering instruction and safety gear for taster sessions or exciting hour-long tours around the estate. There’s also a clubhouse – serving home-baking, snacks, coffee and alcohol – making it a great spot for corporate events, stag and hen parties and active families looking for a place to blow off steam in a safe environment.
