WHAT NOT TO MISS...
Regular visitors to the Royal Highland Show will be familiar with many of its popular events, such as the Grand Parade on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons – where the morning’s prize-winning cattle can be seen wending their way across the main ring. Top class riders and horses take to the showjumping ring, while you can also witness astounding displays of skill and strength in the forestry arena. 2023 sees the return of the Golden Shears World Championships, last held at the Royal Highland Show in 2003. “We’ll be welcoming teams from 38 countries around the world to compete to be the best machine-shearing, blade shearing and wool handling champions of the world,” says David. “We’ve done a lot of work around the infrastructure of our sheep shearing theatre, and that’s going to be spectacular.”
For foodies, Scotland’s Larder promises a host of local producers and numerous opportunities to sample the best Scottish food around. This year, you can also watch super chefs, food writers and producers prepare delicious dishes within the Food For Thought Conference & Cookery Theatre – and ask them any burning questions you might have!
Flock To The Show, a large-scale public art trail, completes its Scotland-wide tour at Ingliston. Featuring 36 specially-designed sheep sculptures, decorated by artists from across the UK, the Royal Highland Show provides the only opportunity to see all of them in one location. “Each of these sheep have a QR code on them, which links back to numerous issues you’ll find in the agricultural world just now, to help raise awareness within the public sector,” says David.
