Fringe By The Sea runs from August 4 to 13 across North Berwick. The multi-arts festival has grown over 14 years and now delivers more than 200 different events to nearly 60,000 visitors. Here are some of the best performances to go and see...
Sir Robin Knox Johnston Sunday August 13, Big Top, Lodge Grounds, 12pm, £18
Sir Robin was the first person to sail single handed and non-stop around the world on a voyage that was to last just over 10 months. In 2007 Sir Robin circumnavigated again in the VELUX 5 OCEANS race at the age of 68. He has been UK Yachtsman of the Year an unprecedented three times. At Fringe By The Sea, he will be in conversation about his incredible adventures and achievements.
Elkie Brooks Wednesday August 9, Big Top, Lodge Grounds, 7.30-9.30pm, £25
One of the most successful and popular singers the UK has produced, Elkie intertwines blues and jazz for her only Scottish show of 2023. Now in the sixth decade of her career, Elkie is still proving one of the most powerful and versatile vocal talents of our generation. Under 16s must be accompanied by an over-18.
Dylan Moran Sunday August 6, Big Top, Lodge Grounds, 7.30-9.30pm, £18
Star of Black Books and general stand-up legend Dylan Moran headlines the first comedy club show presented by Just The Tonic. Dylan Moran’s set features as part of the comedy club performance, which will include intervals. Over-14s advised. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18+.
The Spectacular Music Of Harry Potter By The International Film Orchestra Sunday August 13, Big Top, Lodge Grounds, 7-9pm, £25/£12.50 under-18s
Grab your cloak and your wand and join us for a spellbinding concert featuring the spectacular music from the magnificent Harry Potter films – performed by the sensational International Film Orchestra. This concert will feature the magical music from all eight of the magical films, written by composers John Williams, Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper and Alexandre Desplat. A truly fabulous concert for all of the family. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18+.
Mark Beaumont Wednesday August 9, Big Top, Lodge Grounds, 1.45-2.45pm, £12/£6 (under-18s)
Mark Beaumont holds the record for cycling round the world, completing his 29,000km (18,000-mile) route on September 18, 2017, having taken less than 79 days. His adventures have taken him to more than 100 countries over the past 20 years, making him one of the most respected ultra-endurance athletes on the planet. He will talk about Endurance, a 244-page guide to riding any distance, from 50 miles to a circumnavigation of the globe. Under-16s must be accompanied by over-18s.
Travis Saturday August 5, Big Top, Lodge Grounds, 8-11pm, £65
MULTI-BRIT award winning band Travis will headline Fringe By The Sea on Saturday, August 5. Recent Travis set lists have included songs from all nine of their albums. Most recently, the band have toured the classic albums The Man Who and The Invisible Band which achieved nine-times and four-times platinum status respectively in the UK. Support act to be announced. Under-16s must be accompanied by an over-18.
Hamza Yassin: My Life Behind The Lens Sunday August 6, Big Top, Lodge Grounds, 12-1pm, £15/£7 (under-18s)
Hamza will discuss topics from overcoming dyslexia to his journey to becoming a wildlife photographer, as well as his Strictly triumph! He’ll share beautiful images of his young life in Sudan and his travels as a cameraman. Hamza will bring his cameras, and will answer audience questions. Under-16s must be accompanied by over-18s.
Peat & Diesel Saturday August 12, Big Top, Lodge Grounds, 7-11pm, £25 plus booking fee
2023 looks like the biggest and best yet for the band. If you’ve not experienced the feeling and energy of a folk/punk Peat & Diesel concert, you’ve not lived! Support to be announced. All ages welcome. Under-16s must be accompanied by an over-18.
