Woman burns to death in caravan fire tragedy at Loch Lomond

- Shân ross

A WOMAN died in a fierce blaze in a caravan parked in the grounds of an iconic 300-yearold hotel near Loch Lomond.

About 30 firefighters battled the fire in the grounds of the Drovers Inn at Inverarnan, after the alarm was raised around 4am yesterday.

A police spokeswoman last night said the victim’s identity had not yet been confirmed and a formal identification process would be carried out.

A joint investigation by the police and fire services is under way.

The fire service investigation includes the use of two dogs, which are trained to search for accelerants, such as petrol.

However, fire officials said that there was “nothing to indicate at this stage that the fire was suspicious”.

Gordon Pryde, group manager from Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Our crews worked hard to bring the fire under control but unfortunately there was a fatality as a result of this fire.”

Last night, local residents were still in shock over the tragedy.
