Royal Mile assault leaves man seriously hurt in hospital
A mAN has been seriously injured in an assault on the royal mile in edinburgh.
Police said the 53-year-old was attacked in a property just off the Canongate at about 7:10am yesterday.
He was taken to the city’s royal Infirmary where he was said to be in a serious condition.
Officers have been investigating at the scene, with a section of the road cordoned off.
Anyone with information has been urged to contact police.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in edinburgh are investigating following a serious assault on a 53-year-old man.
“The incident happened around 7:10am at an address in the Canongate.
“The victim has been taken to the royal Infirmary of edinburgh, where he is in a serious condition. Inquiries are ongoing into this attack and anyone who can assist officers with their investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”
A shopkeeper yesterday said he was “worried” by the attack.
“This sort of thing makes you feel very unsafe,” he added. Armed police officers were called to a house and a man has been detained after an alleged domestic incident, police said.
Officers were called to mill of Tynet near Fochabers in moray at 7:40pm on Thursday, before armed police surrounded the property.
They say they received reports of a man allegedly armed with a weapon and posing a threat to the people inside the house.
It was later discovered he was not armed, police said.
A 35-year-old man has been detained by police. Inquiries are ongoing.
