- Gary Heatly

SEVERAL RBS Premiership and National League players will be joined by others from around the country and beyond to turn out for teams at the Hunters Residential Edinburgh 10s at Raeburn Place today.

Since it was set-up in 2010, the event has grown bigger each year and 16 teams will battle it out for the Dunedin Cup and the Auld Reekie Plate.

In Group 1, 2011 winners Rodent Rugby are joined by Foul Fashion, the Occasional 7s and the Stevie Sims Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers are a charity team who raise money for Wooden Spoon and the ITP Association in memory of former University of St Andrews and Stewart’s Melville player Stevie Sims who died a year ago.

They have managed to put together a strong-looking squad with forward Ross Doneghan, who helped Ayr win the double recently, Kiwi playmaker Nick McCashin, Watsonians’ backrow Dom Dunnett and Boroughmuir winger Redha Guedroudj among those to watch out for.

In Group 2 the Edinburgh Accies’ Whites will be tough to beat, captained by Newcastle Fal- con Jamie Sole and including the Pecqueur brothers Josh and Sam.

Another charity team, the Pigbarians, are in the group with a good squad, including James Doig of Musselburgh who was awarded the try of the season at last night’s Scottish Rugby Club Awards.

In group three, Samurai Scottish are led by Scotland Sevens cap Mark Cairns while the Belfast Bears have made the trip to be included in group four.

With last year’s winners, Stockholm Exiles, not attending it is a pretty open event. As well as the main tournament there will be something for all the family off the pitch while a touch rugby event will also be taking place.

The event with the final 4:45pm. starts set to at 10am kick-off at
