Return of the King could add the glue Kyles require

Shinty

- KENNETH STEPHEN

The man who lifted the Camanachd Cup for Kyles last term will return to action for the first time this season today, with Kyles 90 minutes from another showpiece final.

The first of the semi-finals takes place this afternoon with the holders facing Kingussie for a place in the An Aird final in September.

The return of captain Andy King after a lengthy knee problem could not be more timely for the Tighnabruaich side. King helps to glue the side together and is one of the most under-rated anchors in the game.

With Kingussie finding form following the return of their goal-scoring legend Ronald Ross, King’s influence will be vital this afternoon.

“It is great to have Andy back. he has been picking up in training and managed a run-out last Saturday.

“For me, it’s he doesn’t get a Scotland.

“he helps make us tick so we welcome him back for such an important game,” said Kyles coach, James Perlich.

For Kingussie, today’s clash is undoubtedly the biggest game of the campaign and a chance to return to the biggest stage.

It is seven years since the Badenoch outfit last lifted the sport’s blue ribbon trophy; Ross running amok against Fort William in Dunoon.

however, they enter to the fray this afternoon minus Fraser Munro – one of their most consistent performers of recent times.
