Evergreen Andrews hopes to rekindle career against his old club

- Craig P Stewart

who have been fined £50,000? If that’s the case then it does seem a little bit strange. So maybe we’ll get a cheque back from the SFA for £50,000 in the next couple of weeks. I would echo Craig’s views and look for an explanation. We’ve said all along, all we asked is to be treated fairly and the same as everybody else.

“A lot of the fans have felt very hard done by and felt that their club has been singled out. I’m very hopeful that’s not the case. Craig has asked for an explanation, so we’ll see what that is. I don’t want to see anybody fined. Far from it. Fining them for the sole purpose of not having any money defeats the object. But we are where we are. I’m gutted for them [Dunfermline and Hearts], honestly. I know what’s it like – we’ve been through it. I know what the staff and the supporters are going through. It’s terrible, it really is.”

Having been forced to deal with such issues for much of his time as manager, McCoist is looking forward to the start of MARVIN Andrews may have only played at Rangers for two seasons yet the Trinidad & Tobago international created a large entry in their record books when he helped Alex McLeish’s side win the SPL on ‘Helicopter Sunday’ back in 2005.

Andrews had been advised to stop playing that season due to a knee injury, however he soldiered on to help the Ibrox side over the finishing line on the final day with a 1-0 win at Easter Road that lifted the SPL crown as Celtic slipped up 2-1 to Motherwell.

His role in that triumph has seen him gain hero status with the Ibrox fans, however the 37-year-old now finds himself looking to become an Ibrox villain and help Forfar Athletic to defeat Rangers, with the defender in line to make his debut for the Loons.

If he plays it will be the first time he has faced the Glasgow side since leaving in 2006 and Andrews said: “I almost faced Rangers when I was with Hamilton Accies but I was on the substitutes’ bench and never got on. I did take part in the warm up and for ten to 15 minutes the Rangers fans sang my name.

“I had tears in my eyes during it and that was a great highlight in my career. Hamilton lost the game but the reception the Rangers fans gave me was amazing. I had two great years there and of course there was a whole lot of attention given to me regarding my knee injury and me carrying on playing.”

Whilst he may again be reduced to tears by his reception at Station Park, Andrews is hoping that they see him in action as he explained: “I never made my debut last week as I had a slight ankle injury and I also had the chance to do some preaching in Stornoway. Preaching is important to me and the manager agreed that I could go and do it if I was not 100 per cent correct.”

“My ankle is okay now and I want to play. I want to be out there wearing my heart on my sleeve and helping Forfar to do well. I am hoping for a win but I know that will not be easy as Ally McCoist has made some really good signings. Rangers are favourites over the 90 minutes but we have good players and of course if we work hard we are in with a chance.”
