SECC accused told witness: ‘I found the lady injured’

- WilMa riley

A SECURITY guard accused of murdering a delegate at the SECC in Glasgow claimed she was injured when he found her, a court heard.

Clive Carter, 35, from Motherwell, told a co-worker: “I found the lady and her face was smashed in quite badly,” the jury at the High Court in Glasgow was told yesterday.

He denies murdering Khanokporn Satjawat, from Thailand, by battering her on the head and body with a fire extinguisher at the Clyde Auditorium, on 12 November last year.

He has admitted killing Ms Satjawat, 42, but claims he was suffering from diminished responsibility at the time.

She was in Glasgow attending an HIV conference.

Yesterday, security steward Karen Daly, 36, said she had been working in the centre’s cloakroom at about 2:30pm on 12 November when Carter walked past.

She told advocate depute John Scullion, prosecuting, that she knew there had been an incident in the building and asked Carter how he was.

Ms Daly added: “He went into detail. He said, ‘I found the lady and her face was smashed in quite badly’.”

She told the jury that the accused appeared pale.

Alexander McIntosh, 54, a supervisor with G4S, which employed Carter, told the court he saw the security guard and he appeared “agitated”.

“He was white looking and sweating as if he had had a shock,” he added.

The jury heard that just before Ms Satjawat’s death, Carter had been complaining of fatigue from working long hours.

Between June and July last year, he worked 26 consecutive days, the court heard.

And he worked a total of 24 hours on the Saturday and Sunday before Ms Satjawat’s death.

The trial continues.
