Dave Lee Travis denies sex offence charges
FoRMeR Radio 1 DJ Dave Lee Travis has denied a string of indecent assault charges and one of sexual assault.
The 68-year-old, whose real name is David Patrick Griffin, entered not guilty pleas at London’s Southwark Crown Court to a total of 15 charges.
He is accused of 14 counts of indecent assault between 1976 and 2003, and one count of sexual assault in 2008.
Wearing a green jacket over a white shirt, he replied “Not guilty” to each of the charges as they were put to him. Travis, of Mentmore in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, familiar to listeners as DLT, has consistently denied any wrongdoing since he was first arrested on suspicion of sexual offences last November.
He was first charged on 15 August as part of operation Yewtree, the police investigation prompted by the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal, but the accusations against Travis have no connection to the disgraced television presenter.
He was charged with additional counts on 1 october.
Travis is currently on bail on condition that he lives at his Bedfordshire home and does not contact the alleged victims.
The charges relate to 11 alleged victims.
He left court yesterday without speaking to waiting journalists.
Travis is due to stand trial on 14 January, and the hearing is expected to take five to six weeks.
