THE Shipman inquiry held following the murderous career of Dr Shipman highlighted failings in the regulation of doctors by the General Medical Council (GMC) and recommended an independent tribunal be established to deal with complaints against doctors. Seven-and-a-half years later, the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service was set up.

Today is the anniversary of the Francis report into abuse, neglect and deaths at Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust which made 290 recommendations for NHS improvements. Just how many of these 290 have been implemented, I wonder?

– Edinjohn So Swinney has just found another £12 million to bribe the Scots with. Begin to wonder how much more they are holding back and when and for what purpose they have for its intended use. I see Swinney also said he will continue the counciltax freeze. No surprise there, no way the SNP would even think of changing it before the referendum, but watch out after the big vote.

- Hampton in a way, the hooha the SNP is making about the misnamed afford houses larger than their requirement is fine. People who don’t work and rely on state benefit to stay in houses larger than their requirements should not expect others to supplement their lifestyle. However, every effort should be made to ensure alternatives are provided to those affected. It is only fair that the process for relocation should be within a reasonable timespan.

- 02April2006 our government is trying hard to do what it can for the Scottish people – it can do so much more once we decide to run our own business.

- Sgiandubh69 Yet another example of Westminster shafting us but the SNP deflecting the blow.
