Bookies slash odds on Judy Murray winning Strictly after rush of bets

- ANGUS HOWARTH

JUDY MURRAY’S odds of winning Strictly Come Dancing have narrowed, with bookmakers braced for a bumper payout to punters if she wins.

Following the leaking of voting percentages, bookies fear a pummelling from gamblers who reckon tennis ace Andy’s mother can keep the momentum going to take her all the way to the final.

They say the sheer volume of bets placed on the 55-year-old Scot has meant her odds of winning the show have plummeted to 50/1 from 200/1.

She has been all smiles this week during a series of TV appearances talking about the hit BBC show and her chances on it.

Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills is the front-runner at even money to be booted out of the show next. However, the odds on either This Morning presenter Alison Hammond or Blue band member Simon Webbe being kicked out have fallen to 8/1.

EastEnders actor Jake Wood remains the most likely star to win this year’s glitterball trophy, at 7/4.

Jessica Bridge, of Ladbrokes, said: “We’re desperate to see hawk-eye used on Judy’s voting figures. We’re now bracing ourselves for a monumental payout as punters are convinced she’s a certainty to make the final.”

Coral, too, is tipping Judy to make the final. Spokeswoman Nicola McGeady said: “Momentum for Judy is picking up pace, and after many punters backed her at 100-1, she will be a nightmare result for us if she wins.

“If they were judged on dancing alone, either Scott or Judy would leave this weekend, but with both gaining support, we wouldn’t be surprised if there was another upset.”

The latest odds on the eventual winner are: Jake Wood 7/4, Frankie Bridge 11/4, Pixie Lott 7/2, Caroline Flack 9/2, Mark Wright 20/1, Simon Webbe 33/1, Steve Backshall 40/1, Sunetra Sarker 50/1, Judy Murray 50/1, Alison Hammond 66/1, Scott Mills 150/1.
