HK students to target summit

HONG Kong student protest leaders are considering visiting Beijing when it hosts a major Asian summit next week to press demands for greater democratic reforms.

Student leader Alex Chow said protest organisers would discuss the idea of trying to talk to Chinese officials during the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation forum, which starts on Wednesday.

He said it was unclear whether they would even be allowed past mainland Chinese border checkpoints. The protesters have been occupying major streets in Hong Kong for five weeks demanding open elections.
