Still a Yes

@mykilmarnock tweeted: “One thing missing from the Vision for Glasgow Prestwick Airport. Change the name! Why not name it after Robert Burns?”

@Dark_Blitz_2 posted: “I like the idea of turning Prestwick Airport into a Spaceport. Although, they better not touch the Starbucks there!” #EdMiliband Labour leader Ed Miliband’s gave money to a beggar in Manchester yesterday, but some felt his act of generosity in front of the cameras was undermined by his awkward demeanour.

@mcjwalsh tweeted: “That’s terrible. Why can’t he have the kindness and decency to look the lady in the face?”

@WalkerMarcus said: “This is pushing bacon sandwich levels of awkwardness. Takes skill to look bad giving alms to the poor.”

@davidwhartley tweeted: “Looks like he’s concerned she may have Ebola!”

@DerekWhitaker3 said: “Copper not paper money and then he probably asked for change.” #AnasSarwar Anas Sarwar resigned as Scottish Labour’s deputy leader to clear the way for an MSP to stand on a joint leadership ticket with Jim Murphy. The Glasgow Central MP quit at the end of another turbulent day for Scottish Labour that saw its support plunge in the polls.

@Riddrie tweeted: “Anas Sarwar resigns? Strange, since only two days ago he said he wouldn’t stand for Scots Labour leader because he had a big job as deputy.

@AngrySalmond said: “Anas Sarwar gone. If this keeps up there won’t be a Scottish Labour Party by Monday.”

@LesleyRiddoch added: “So Anas Sarwar has quit to boost Jim Murphy’s chances – 2 MPs leading Scottish Labour was unacceptable. Just shows how ruthless Westminster Lab can be.” JOYCE McMillan (Perspective, 31 October) refers to the bafflement of “those of us who accept the referendum result”.

This implies that there are others who do not accept the official result but who may feel that, while having to live with it, they do not believe it.

Whatever category they fall into, many people still wear Yes badges and express hope for the future.

Recent polls suggest that at the 2015 UK parliament elections most of the MPs who were on the No side will be replaced by ones on the Yes side.

If so, these Scottish MPs may hold the balance of power to decide which party or coalition forms the next UK government.

The ancient Chinese curse, “May you live in interesting times”, may still offer hope for Scotland. Blacket Place
