Cut council tax

-

IAN Lewis’s comments on the SNP and the council tax “freeze” (Letters, 31 October) are not strictly accurate.

The council tax we pay may be frozen but the councils receive massive funding to alleviate the freeze from the Scottish Government. The councils in Scotland have not financially covered themselves in glory in recent years.

To ask those who actually pay the tax in Edinburgh to fork out almost £2,000 a year for a small two-bedroom house is scandalous.

Without the SNP “freeze” what would we now be paying seven years later? £2,500? More?

Remember, pensioners with modest savings still have to pay the full council tax.

How about instead of increasing the council tax we look forward to decreasing it and capping it? Broomhall Loan
