Mother carrying toddler assaulted

A HOODED attacker assaulted a young woman on a footpath as she carried her one-year-old child.

The 19-year-old victim was walking near Marmion Road in the Greenfaulds area of Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, when a man grabbed from behind and pulled her back, causing her to fall to the ground.

She was carrying her young son in her arms at the time of the incident, at about 11:30am on Tuesday.

While the woman managed to protect the child as she fell, she suffered an injury to her face in the incident.

The man, whose intentions did not become clear, then ran off as the woman fell. Officers are appealing for information and have issued a description of the suspect.

He was about 6ft, slim and wearing a black hooded top and dark jeans.
