Social media is a ‘marriage minefield’
SOCIAL media is wreaking havoc on marriages with one in seven people saying they had contemplated divorce because of their partner’s posts on Facebook and Twitter.
According to a new study, just under half of Britons admit they have secretly checked their partner’s Facebook account – and one in five went on to argue about what they discovered. Nearly a quarter of the 2,000 married couples surveyed said they argued at least once a week because of social media use.
Family law specialist Slater & Gordon, which commissioned the research, said they were seeing more and more couples citing use of sites including Facebook, Twitter, What’sapp or Snapchat as a cause of divorce.
Andrew Newbury, head of family law at the firm, said: “We are finding that social media is the new ‘marriage minefield’.”
