David Cameron want Scotland to become independent? Because he is going the right way about it.

What he said on Tuesday regarding that the dream of independence – that it was false and it would fade in time – was at best naive and misguided but at worst downright stupid and thoughtless given the passionate yet toxic way the Nationalists feel about this issue. To come out with this one week before the election is very silly and the SNP will probably be rejoicing now.

The Tories in Scotland since 1997 have had 18 years to make up the ground they have lost and this week we have seen the ground fall away from them. I think David Cameron has just scored an own-goal in Scotland. GORDON KENNEDY Simpson Square
