Allum is hoping to celebrate but he won’t be overdoing it

- CRAIG FORBES

HAVING received two red cards for over-celebrating this season, the prospect of Ross Allum finding the net at Dudgeon Park might be enough to prompt Edinburgh City boss Gary Jardine to draw up a contingency plan for combating Brora Rangers with ten men.

He needn’t worry, according to Allum, who is adamant he has learned from his indiscretions and can keep a lid on his emotions – even if he registers what would undoubtedly be the most important goal of his life this afternoon.

“It’s something I’ve spoken to the manager about and he knows that I’ve learned from it,” said City’s 23-goal talisman. “After getting sent off once for over-celebrating, it’s not something that should happen again. The boys have just started jumping on my back whenever I score to make sure I don’t get myself into too much trouble by doing something stupid.”

After a 1-1 draw in last Saturday’s first leg, Allum’s focus is now on dispatching the Highland League champions this afternoon to set up a showdown with Montrose for a place in League 2.

“To make that step up is an ambition every boy in our dressing room has,” he added. “And to do it with Edinburgh City would be a dream come true.”

Meanwhile, Davie Kirkwood stressed he could realise his managerial ambitions with Brora after being linked with the Raith Rovers managerial vacancy.

After steering the Sutherland club to back-to-back Highland League titles with just one defeat in 68 league matches, the former Raith player is hot property. But Kirkwood said: “I’d certainly like to manage in the SPFL, but I could be doing that with Brora Rangers next season. I’m totally focused on Brora Rangers and making sure we do ourselves justice against Edinburgh City.”
