Healthy acquisition for IT sales and support group

- SCOTT REID

MICROTECH, an IT sales and support outfit based in Kilmarnock, has acquired technology specialist Telehealth Solutions as it targets growth across the UK health and social care sectors.

The group, which already offers so-called telecare products for GP surgeries and supported housing, said it would now be able to supply telehealth services that mean care providers can monitor people’s health remotely.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, will allow NHS and local authority commissioners to access a full service offering for telehealth and telecare support contracts in a single place, Microtech added.

Among the products within Telehealth Solutions’ portfolio is a touchscreen device that enables people to be monitored for health changes from where they live, and another for patients to record information such as weight, height, blood pressure prior to their GP or hospital appointment.

Telehealth Solutions was acquired from Moonray Healthcare, and will continue to operate under its current name as part of the Microtech group. Microtech – established in 1986 – will become responsible for Telehealth’s current customers, which include NHS Ayrshire and Arran and Surrey County Council.

Chris Mcmail, managing director at Microtech, said: “We are continuing to enhance upon our core competencies, and by Telehealth Solutions joining our group, we are developing huge opportunities to make a real difference for patients looking to take control of their conditions.

“The technologies we have inherited will also help busy clinicians and give GPS more time to care.”

In England alone, about 15 million people are living with a long-term health conditions.
