WOMEN ‘WORST HIT’ BY BUDGET CUTS TO WELFARE I reckon we should have a referendum on this austerity package. I bet the wise, silent, fed-up majority will win as usual. Women are free agents. It’s up to them to organise their lives differently and better.

- Itwisnaeme If women are hit the children will be too. Oh yes, the Tories have just “redefined” child poverty out of existence. Convenient, eh? More than half the welfare budget is spent on pensions and benefits for older people but those won’t be touched as they are more likely to vote Tory, so it will be the most vulnerable who are targeted yet again, particularly women.

- Anne Thomsa I love the way Holyrood spend so much time and money on reports to slate Westminster yet do nothing to resolve their own failures and have no plans to do anything to remedy what they believe is wrong.

- Lizimac If they cut carers’ allowance what carers need to do is walk away and tell social services to take on the task. Believe me, this is one group of people who could bring the NHS and social services to their knees.

- Galloway gal As men and women are different and have different skills, perhaps we should be encouraging combined economic units, working together in small teams, rather than trying to use the tax code to balance the family budget.

- Oldyun The proposed tweaks will achieve very little savings. We need to remove the state’s responsibility for homing and feeding pregnant teenagers and the long-term unemployed.

- Handsome Scotsman If George Osborne takes £12 billion (£2.6bn in Scotland) off the poorest people in society and pushes them into poverty people will not have the money to spend in the local economy so he will get fewer VAT receipts and firms will go to the wall.
