‘My phone was buzzing so much I couldn’t get any sleep’

- Gullane Diary

AFTER my fairytale success on Sunday in the qualifier, I received so many messages congratulating me that I had to turn my phone off as I couldn’t sleep due to it buzzing all the time on my bedside table.

Not that I’m complaining about that. I really appreciate all the support I’ve had over the past two days and I believe some of my friends are planning to come along to the tournament to cheer me on wearing matching tee-shirts, which will be nice.

It was nice to arrive at Gullane to register with my mum, dad and sister, though I had no clue where to go and was asking loads of people. After going back home for a bit, I then returned to the course with Mark Reid, my caddie, to hit some balls on the range. I was aware that Robert Karlsson was behind me and Matteo Manassero two along the other way, but it’s good fun. I am trying to learn from these guys because that’s where I want to be in a few years’ time.

I then went out and played nine holes and we were joined by Greg Smail, who plays his golf at Craigielaw and is also at the University of Louisiana Monroe. I thought it was going to be faster but there’s been a lot of rain recently. Normally where you can play a bump and run into greens it was stopping and that is unusual here. But I’m sure it will firm up for the tournament.

My plan for today is to play 18 holes. It’s just a case of turning up on the tee so I’ll just need to wait and see if there’s anyone waiting there to go out with.

I’m still pinching myself that I’m in the Scottish Open, but I’m having a great time so far.
