Codeclan appoints first chief executive

DIGITAL skills academy Codeclan has appointed software industry veteran Harvey Wheaton as its first chief executive. He will play a key role in launching the government-backed initiative in Edinburgh as it prepares to open its doors to the first students in October.

With 25 years’ experience in software developmen­t, Wheaton has worked for a broad range of companies including ICI, Astrazenec­a, Cap Gemini, Jpmorgan Chase and Electronic Arts.

He said: “Codeclan embodies everything that I care about – technology, education, start-ups and Scotland – so I am delighted to be joining the team.”

Four recruits have joined the ranks of law firm Macroberts, including Laura Wilson, who joins from Harper Macleod and becomes its first procuremen­t director.

Fiona Sharp joins as a senior associate from Mcclure Naismith, which fell into administra­tion last month, while Stephanie Baynham moves from Burness Paull to become a senior solicitor in the banking and finance practice and Alasdair Irvine joins the corporate defence team as a solicitor having completed his traineeshi­p with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.

Change Recruitmen­t Group, which has offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow, has named Andrew Finlayson as director of IT, digital and business change, while Laura Thorburn has been promoted to associate director. Managing director Mark Mcfall said: “Our clients are looking for a new breed of employee, and with Andrew’s appointmen­t and Laura’s promotion, we will be at the forefront of delivering that customised support.”

Fellow recruiter Core-asset Consulting, which focuses on the financial sector, has appointed Karen Mcnab to the newly-created position of associate director for product and strategy, reporting to managing director Betsy Williamson and taking its headcount to 32.

Lanark-based Border Biscuits has bolstered its sales team with the appointmen­t of Donald Musson as national account manager, responsibl­e for strengthen­ing its foodservic­e and wholesale business.
