Magic Martial strikes twice to send United second

-

ANTHONY Martial continued his dream start to life at Manchester United as he scored twice in their 3-2 comeback victory at Southampton.

Martial, who scored on his debut after coming on as a substitute, made his first Premier League start and showed impressive coolness as United went second in the league behind local rivals Manchester City.

Last year it was Robin van Persie who scored twice in a narrow win for Louis van Gaal’s side at St Mary’s but now United fans have a new hero as their £36 million deadline-day signing continued his impressive start.

Graziano Pelle scored the first and last goals of the game but Martial levelled before the break and benefited from a lapse in concentration from Maya Yoshida to put United in front early after the break, with Juan Mata also on the scoresheet in the win.

David De Gea also shone for United, with one save from Jose Fonte in particular key to the victory.

Liverpool striker Danny Ings eclipsed the much-anticipated return of Daniel Sturridge by coming off the bench to score but it was not enough for victory as they were held 1-1 by Norwich at Anfield.

The half-time substitute needed just three minutes to coolly slot home his first goal for the club in front of the Kop.

However, when Simon Mignolet flapped at a corner, Scotland international Russell Martin flicked home to make it 1-1.

It was a familiar story for Liverpool of not being able to hold onto a lead – a much-changed side did exactly the same in the Europa League against Bordeaux in midweek.

After seven points from their opening three matches, Liverpool have taken one from the last three and are 13th in the table, seven adrift of leaders City.

It may have been premature for Norwich fans to sing ‘Getting sacked in the morning’ to Brendan Rodgers but there is no doubt the Reds boss is coming under increasing scrutiny.

Tottenham appear to have found a new goal hero in Son Heung-min, who scored his third goal in two games to give Spurs a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane – their first home league victory of the campaign.

Endearing himself to the fans on his home league debut, the South Korea international, signed from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window for a reported fee of £22m, scored the 68th-minute winning goal that his fine performance deserved, firing home a low shot as Spurs held out for the win.

Yohan Cabaye was denied by the post for Palace.
