Playful hounding fails to put Fox off in scrappy County win

-

SCOTT Fox is happy Ross County are heading in the right direction after their best ever start to the Ladbrokes Premiership.

The goalkeeper kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over his former club Partick Thistle and pulled off a couple of important stops in the process to ensure victory.

Liam Boyce scored the only goal of Saturday’s game early on before Thistle tried hard to get back on level terms in what was a scrappy affair. Victory lifted Ross County to fourth place.

Fox said: “It was good to get a clean sheet against my old team. It gave us the three points and puts us in a right good position in the league. It was important we got a result as we have a few hard games coming up. ”

He added: “If we’d won 2-1 or 3-1 I’d be happy with that, but it’s important to get a 1-0 win.

“We’re going in the right direction, we’ve been doing really well. We’ve carried on the momentum (from last season). I just hope it continues.”

The goalkeeper has quickly settled in at his new club, having moved on from Thistle in the summer.

He said: “I’ve loved every minute of it. The boys have made it very easy for me, we’ve gelled together. We are good friends on and off the pitch.”

Fox came in for light-hearted stick from the vociferous Thistle support behind his goal in the second half.

He said: “It shows they valued me as a good player. I think it would hurt me more if they weren’t bothered about me. You’ve just got to deal with it and move on.”

Partick winger Steven Lawless is hoping his side’s fortunes turn soon – the Glasgow club are still in search of that elusive first win of the season and are rooted to the foot of the table.

He said: “It’s just getting that first win under our belts. We were not good enough by our standards.”

Lawless is confident things can only get better, adding: “We feel we are better than our league position suggests, but results don’t lie and we need to get ourselves up the table.”
