Six new partners for HBJ Gateley in latest round of hiring

The latest hires are Glasgow-based Nick Taylor and Paul Ockrim, both of whom join from property-focused legal firm Leslie Wolfson & Co. In Edinburgh, the firm has brought in Helena Brown from Burness Paull (intellectu­al property) and former Mcclure Naismith banking partner John Blackwood. Corporate restructur­ing partner Addi Shamash, promoted from senior associate in Edinburgh has joined HBJ Gateley’s Aberdeen office along with former Subsea 7 inhouse counsel consultant, Alison Sim. Consultant Philip Argo, who has worked with Peak Well Systems, Venture Production and Ithaca Energy, joins the senior team in Aberdeen.

Jo Nove and Laura Leslie join from the consultanc­y Greenhaus and banking group TSB respective­ly. Laura has been on secondment from TSB for a year and will move formally to Charlotte Street Partners in January 2016. Jo joins with immediate effect. Malcolm Robertson, the group’s founding partner, said: “We have a wonderfull­y talented, diverse team here, and Jo and Laura make excellent additions.”

Helen, who has more than 20 years’ experience in tax and is a member of the Associatio­n of Taxation Technician­s, joined Faith Simpson a year ago. In addition, Sheryl Dyer, Faith Simpson’s longest-serving member of staff, with four years’ experience, has been promoted to assistant practice manager within the company, which has its head office in South Street, Elgin.

Yvonne Brady, Fiona Mckerrell and John Gallacher will join in the New Year from HBJ Gateley. Yvonne, who will become head of the Shepherd & Wedderburn team, is described in the independen­t legal directory, Chambers and Partners, as “the most experience­d recovery lawyer in Scotland”.

He reports into JLL’S lead director for Scotland, Alasdair Humphery.
