Police have identified a man who was found dead in an Edinburgh street. The 37-year-old’s body was found lying in Leamington Terrace, near its junction with Bruntsfiel­d Place, at around 5:35am on Saturday morning. His family have been informed and have requested that his name is not made public. Inquiries are ongoing into the death, which police are treating as unexplaine­d. Police want to hear from anyone with informatio­n. Antibiotic resistance, mass extinction and fossil fuel distributi­on were among the top 10 most popular science stories of the year. In second place was a study which found there is no associatio­n between the MMR vaccine and an increased risk of autism. Pollution of the world’s oceans came in at number six, while a study about religion and selfishnes­s was 10th in the list. The list, compiled by academic content tracking company Altmetric, ranks the most shared and talked-about articles of the last year. The postal workers union is stepping up its campaign to protect the daily delivery service on one of the busiest days of the year for its members. The Communicat­ion Workers Union is urging the public to show support for their postie and help preserve the universal service of deliveries to 29 million homes and businesses. A submarine unit weighing over 1,000 tonnes has been successful­ly transporte­d to an indoor shipping complex in Cumbria. The cylindrica­l unit, moved by BAE Systems, will form part of an Astute class nuclear-powered submarine. The first two submarines of the seven-sub programme – HMS Astute and HMS Ambush – are already in service.
