East Fife fall to Forfar but still top the table while Dundee slip up against Peterhead

East Fife may have gone down 2-0 at Forfar however they finished their Group A games at the top of the table with Dundee required to beat the Station Park men to have any chance of qualifying after losing 2-1 at Peterhead.

Forfar took the lead after 20 minutes when Jim Lister slid the ball into the net and Andy Munro rammed a loose ball home five minutes into the second half to complete the scoring.

Peterhead, who can now win the group by beating Dumbarton, saw off Paul Hartley’s side thanks to Rory Mcallister’s free-kick just after the hour mark, with the striker hitting his second from the penalty spot before Greg Stewart scored Dundee’s consolatio­n. In Group B, former St Johnstone striker Andy Jackson shocked the Perth side when he headed Brechin into the lead after 31 minutes, however Chris Kane levelled matters four minutes from time.

The Glebe Park men stunned Saints for a second time by winning the shoot-out 4-2. Stirling Albion defeated Elgin 4-1 with Blair Henderson netting a second-half hat-trick that included a penalty.

Eddie Ferns had drilled the Forthbank men into the lead on 11 minutes, however within a minute a defensive lapse allowed Kyle Macleod to equalise with the second half belonging to Henderson.

Partick Thistle won for the third time in Group E with a 4-1 success away at Stenhousem­uir.

Mathias Pogba headed in the opener for the Jags on 21 minutes and within 60 seconds Thistle’s advantage had been doubled with Sean Welsh netting from the penalty spot after David Amoo had been fouled.

Liam Mccroary grabbed a goal back 17 minutes from time but Amoo and Adebayo Azeez netted in the final ten minutes for the Jags

Queen’s Park and Airdrie served up a pulsating 3-3 draw at Hampden with the Diamonds winning 8-7 on penalties.

Adam Cummins side-footed the hosts into the lead after three minutes however stunning quick-fire goals from Andy Ryan and Adam Brown had Airdrie in front on 21 min- utes. It was 3-1 before the break when Iain Russell shot home but Aiden Malone gave the Spiders fresh hope with a welltaken shot three minutes after the restart.

In Group H, Kilmarnock were in danger of being knocked out after going down 2-0 at Berwick Rangers, however they hit back to claim a 3-2 victory.

The Borderers took the lead on 11 minutes when Jonny Fairbairn headed in a corner and Sean Mackie ran through and curled home a second on 56 minutes. Souleymane Coulibaly netted twice in five minutes to restore parity with 20 minutes to go and Rory Mckenzie hit the winner on 85 minutes.

Ross Davidson scored Albion Rovers’ first goal in the competitio­n but Clyde hit back to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Ewan Mcneil and Dylan Easton.

In the only game in Group G, Ayr United won 2-0 at Livingston with Peter Murphy cracking home from 30 yards after 19 minutes and Craig Mcguffie netting from close range late on.
