Putting on the Blitz: Remembering college’s Second World War training camp role
A building’s role as a Second World War training camp will be celebrated this month. Putting on the Blitz at Newbattle Abbey College on 10 September will see the launch of a documentary and a book telling the building’s wartime story. It will also include an exhibition of artefacts and photographs, 1940s entertainment, games and the transformation of the college’s cafe into a wartime NAAFI canteen. The college near Dalkeith, Midlothian, was requisitioned as a training camp on the outbreak ofwarin1939.andprojectleader Charlotte Johnson tracked down veterans to record their memories of training there.
