‘Sweating’ Mckinnon thrilled to land Andreu as eve-of-deadline treble leads to surge of offers

Dundee United manager Ray Mckinnon last night spoke of his thrill at landing Anthony Andreu, admitting he sweated big-time amid intense competition for his signature.

Mckinnon pulled off his transfer deadline deal to take the highly-rated 28-year-old to Tannadice on a season’s loan from Norwich City.

Andreu is understood to have knocked back a handful of offers after hitting a hat-trick for Norwich under 23s on Tuesday night in their 6-1 win over Peterborough in the Football League Trophy meant last-minute interest in him soared through the roof.

Mckinnon said: “We worked hard to get Tony here and I believe there were five other clubs in for him. I was sweating all day on it and there were a few points where I didn’t think it would happen.

“He scored a hat-trick on the night before the deadline that alerted other people. But I’m delighted he made the choice to come here. It’s really positive. He wanted to come here because of the club and the way we want to play football.”
