Scots go nap as Swiss are rolled over in World League

- By CRAIG MADDEN

Scotland rolled the Swiss over 5-0 in the opening match of the World League round one at Glasgow Green and moved immediately to the top of the table.

The Scots totally dominated proceedings in the first period and early chances for Alan Forsyth and Lee Morton was a sign of the times.

Despite all the pressure the opener was delayed to midway through the half. At Scotland’s second penalty corner Dan Coultas’ drag flick was well saved by the Swiss goalkeeper. The rebound fell kindly to Kenny Bain and the HGC striker fired the ball into the roof of the net.

The second came from a slice of luck. The Swiss goalkeeper failed to clear a rather harmless ball from Hamish Imrie, the ball broke to Coultas and the Edinburgh University defender gratefully slotted it home.

The Scots continued to put the Swiss defence under intense pressure but had to be satisfied with a 2-0 lead at the interval.

The second half was a carbon copy of the first and the contest was effectively over when Bain and Ed Greaves created the opening and Forsyth scored, a fitting way to celebrate his 100th Scotland cap.

The fourth came following a penalty corner shot by Willie Marshall. The ball was not cleared and Imrie slotted it into the net.

The scoring finished when Cammie Fraser was pushed in the back and Forsyth did the needful from the spot.

In the other pool match Wales were comfortable 4-1 winners over Portugal. The Scots face Slovakia in their second match today.
