#FMQS
Nicola Sturgeon and the Conservatives clashed at the new-style FMQS over what was to blame for economic uncertainty in Scotland; Brexit or a second independence referendum. @kevwodonnell said: “I’m sure farmers who haven’t received payments from 9 months ago will be comforted by Nicola Sturgeon acknowledging ‘shortcomings’...” @Allofusfirst commented: “Labour in Scotland are using young people’s mental health issues as an excuse to attack Scottish Government. Totally out of order!” @Leemartin113 wrote: “Well done Kez Dugdale for highlighting the issue of children and adolescent mental health services at FMQS. Much more needs to be done.” @Bbcphilipsim tweeted: “That’s the FMQS that Ken Macintosh has been looking for; lots and lots of backbench Qs, very little shouting. Wildcard Qs worked well though.”
#PARALYMPICS
New Brazilian president Michel Temer was booed at the opening ceremony of the Rio Paralympic Games. It began with wheelchair athlete Aaron Fotheringham jumping through a giant ring. @ericajarnes shared: “Wow that was a very real moment - the whole of the Maracana spontaneously booing the Brazilian govt at the Paralympics opening ceremony.” @Alexbradbrook wrote: “So happy the Paralympics are here! Always amazed by these incredible people who’ve overcome obstacles to achieve so much.” @stuart621 observed: “These athletes all look so pleased and proud. If you could bottle and sell that, you’d make a fortune!”
#STARTREK50
Trekkies took to Twitter to celebrate the 50th anniversary yesterday of the first episode of the original Star Trek series. A Star Trek film was shown at Linlithgow Palace - the town being the birthplace of engineer Scotty - to mark the occasion. @edstetzer posted: “Happy #Startrek50 and remember that no one in the show or films ever uttered the exact sentence, ‘Beam me up, Scotty.’” @phil500 said: “Happy Birthday Startrek!!” @Lesism wrote: “50 years of both Star Trek and Pink Floyd! 1966 was a damn good year! Thank you, lovely 1966!”
