Willett ‘disappointed’ by brother’s website attack on USA fans

Peter made his comments as he offered his opinion on the importance of Team Europe needing to quieten the home crowd as they bid to claim an unprecedented fourth victory in a row in the match after wins at Celtic Manor, Medinah and Gleneagles two years ago.

The European players were already set to face a hostile reception this week after Team USA had been drumming up home support through a “13th Man” campaign and Clarke was clearly angry that the US fans had been given some potential ammunition to aim at Danny on his debut in the event.

“The fans could not have been nicer or better to us this week and hopefully that continues,” said the European captain. “The article was beyond our control and it is one of those really disappointing things. Danny will resolve it. I will let him deal with it between siblings.”

Asked if he knew if Peter was due to be here, Clarke added: “I am not aware of who is bringing whom. My responsibilities are to the team and the 12 guys and their partners and the caddies, so I have no idea if his brother was invited or not.”
