Calmac ferry back in service after collision

-

A ferry which crashed into a harbour in the Western Isles is due to return to service today.

A mechanical failure caused the MV Hebrides to collide with pontoons and hit the seabed as it sailed into port at Lochmaddy harbour in North Uist on 25 September.

There were 76 people on board the Calmac ferry at the time, though no one was hurt.

The vessel suffered damage to its hull and starboard propeller shaft but the ferry operator has said it has successfully completed sea trials after a period of repairs in dry dock.
