Merkel critic holds out for refugee cap

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s most prominent critic in the migrant crisis has said he will stick to what he says is a “core” demand for a cap on the number of refugees that Germany accepts each year.

Horst Seehofer, leader of the Christian Social Union, has long criticised Mrs Merkel’s approach to migrants and is pressing for an annual refugee cap of 200,000, a call Mrs Merkel so far has rejected.
