Brewster and Muirhead lead their rinks to European Championships

- By MARK WOODS

Tom Brewster and Eve Muirhead’s teams will represent Scotland at next month’s European Championships at Braehead after winning the playdowns in Perth last night. Brewster’s line-up defeated Olympic silver medallist David Murdoch 2-0 in the final to take a huge step towards beating his rival to a place at the 2018 Winter Games in Korea.

“Dave’s team were throwing the stones really well but we got off to a great start and a three in the third end gave us the lead and we managed to keep it,” Brewster said. “It hasn’t really sunk in yet and it will be great to compete in a home event.”

Muirhead’s crew came up trumps 3-0 in their playoff with Team Fleming and the 2010 Olympian, whose brother Glen plays for Team Brewster, will set her sights on making an impression at the Europeans.

“Any team that’s there has earned the right to be there so it will be tough as usual and I guess you’ve got to go there on form,” Muirhead said. “Our new coach Glenn Howard’s going to be there with us and he’s brought a lot to this team so far.”
