Scotland between Benin and Guinea-bissau in rankings

- By CRAIG FOWLER

Scotland have fallen to 67th place in the latest Fifa world rankings following the recent 3-0 defeat by England at Wembley.

Gordon Strachan’s side sit between African nations Benin and Guinea-bissau and below United Arab Emirates, Mali, Uzbekistan and Panama.

The Scots are by far and away the lowest of the home nations. Northern Ireland are in 32nd position, while Wales remain one place ahead of England in 12th.

The Republic of Ireland, who finished above Scotland in Euro 2016 qualifying, sit in 23rd.

Argentina top the list ahead of rivals Brazil. Germany are third, with Chile and Belgium occupying the fourth and fifth spots. Scotland’s lowly ranking highlights the dramatic fall they have suffered during the reign of Strachan, pictured. They reached 29th place in 2013, up from 72nd, in the aftermath of the Craig Levein era, but have fallen back down since.

The highest position Scotland have ever achieved was 13th place, which they reached back in 2007.
