RENAULT REVEALS DETAILS OF HOTTER NEW TWINGO GT

-

Renault has revealed the pricing and specifications for its new Twingo GT, which goes on sale in the UK from 1 December.

Priced at £13,755, the rearengined, rear-wheel-drive city car has had its power increased to 109bhp, while torque now stands at 125lb/ ft, giving the Twingo GT a 0-60mph time of 9.4 seconds.

These gains in performance are down to a modified turbocharger, upgraded fuel pump, revised engine mapping and a new twin silencer exhaust that was specially designed for the Twingo GT.

The car’s five-speed manual gearbox has also been overhauled, with new ratios ensuring it can cope with the Twingo’s improved performance and sporty dynamics. The accelerator mapping has also been optimised to ensure it provides a much more rapid response.

Renault Sport has also tuned the Twingo GT’S chassis to improve handling, adding stiffer shock absorbers, a larger diameter anti-roll bar and a 20mm reduction in ride height. The 17-inch alloy wheels inspired by those seen on the Twin ’run concept from 2013 have also been wrapped in Yokohama Bluearth tyres.

In terms of visual changes, the Twingo GT features a sporty new body kit, tinted rear windows and the aforementioned 17-inch diamondcut alloys.

Renault has also introduced a range of new colours, which include Blaze Orange, Crystal White, Lunar Grey and Diamond Black. Contrasting stripes inspired by NACA aircraft also feature on the Twingo GT, finished in black on cars bearing Blaze Orange paint, and orange on all other colours.

The new car’s cabin features orange trim details on the part-leather seat upholstery, air vents and the base of the gear lever. The dashboard, air vents and steering wheel also feature splashes of grey finishing. Renault Sport badges adorn the door sills, while the foot pedals are crafted from aluminium.

Customers will be able to add further optional details such as GT roof and bonnet details, an electric panoramic folding fabric sunroof and heated front seats.

The Techno Pack adds Renault’s R-link multimedia system that includes a seveninch touchscreen with satellite navigation, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, voice control and reverse parking camera and sensors.

The new Twingo Dynamique S trim will debut alongside the GT. This will cost from £12,205 and features a number of changes to the exterior and interior.

These include a new body kit, 16-inch diamond-cut alloys and the same selection of colours available on the GT for the exterior, while the cabin mirrors that of its sportier sibling..
