#STKILDA

A rediscovered census from 1764 has revealed that the 90 St Kilda residents feasted on 1,600 seabirds a day, as other kinds of food were so scarce on the remote archipelago. @allanrob9 commented: ‘They had St Kilda sheep and eggs from the cliffs but the diet was limited. What a place to live with its sea circled faith and closed company’ @tlscadden1 added: ‘I’m intrigued by the western and northern isles too, but St Kilda has always been special – there’s a sadness and mystique’ @colinfarmery had this to say: ‘St Kilda remains the most fascinating place I have ever visited’ @chalkeblue licked their lips: ‘St Kilda census shows islanders ate 18 gannets a day, with puffins as snacks’

#HOGMANAY

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay showcase concert headlined by local lad Paolo Nutini has sold out in a record three hours. @Han_barrie piped up: ‘I will 100 per cent cry if Paolo Nutini sings Caledonia during the Hogmanay party’ @Connorboyd_ shared: ‘I wish I was able to see Paolo Nutini at Hogmanay. But tickets are sold out, hotels are like £400 and there’s no trains on New Year’s Day’ @Edinburgh_cc was most informative: ‘Hogmanay supports the city’s economy to the tune of £42m with 98 per cent of accommodation occupied’ @naomirossx said: ‘I’m buzzing to see Paolo Nutini on the 30th in Edinburgh – but then get the train on Hogmanay to go out in Glasgow for New Year’

#HONOURSSYSTEM

Hillsborough campaigner Prof Phil Scraton has turned down an OBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours list. @underagreysky –aka Paul Scraton – was aghast: ‘OBE? I’m amazed they thought it was a good idea to offer it to him, or expected any other response... well done Dad’ @xtinah3 agreed with the sentiment: ‘Good for him. He doesn’t need a piece of metal to prove a point or fit in with the fake social climbers’ @Jaymckenna87 added: ‘Well done Phil Scraton. Who wants to be ‘honoured’ by a system that has failed so many for so long?’ @ravisingh_gdp had this to say: ‘A principleled move, great to see in a fickle world - Hillsborough campaigner’
